Summary: Residents at the Clapham Park Estate celebrated their annual summer fun day on Saturday.

Residents from the Clapham Park Estate came together at Clapham Park Cube on Saturday 19th July for the annual summer fun day that brought together local organisations, music and dance performers, the MP, and the Mayor of Lambeth for a day filled with entertainment, activities, and creativity.

This year’s event included more resident stalls to support local enterprise, as well as a creative zone to give residents opportunity to create together and learn about the Summer Arts Programme which launched on the same day.

Workshops included fan-making, design your own card, crafting, and there were stalls selling handmade jewellery, cards, facepainting, henna, as well as informational offerings from Agnes Riley Gardens, Macmillan Cancer Support, Anytime Fitness and London Plus Credit Union. Residents of all ages engaged in a range of creative activities throughout the day including the opportunity to hold various sizes of rescue snakes and reptiles.

Residents were entertained by local dance and music artists including the Brixton Chamber Orchestra, the Jack Seager School of Dance, E Squad and Mas Africa dance group, with music from DJ 24Karia throughout.

The event was attended by Bell Ribeiro-Addy MP, MP for Clapham and Brixton Hill, and Cllr Adrian Garden, Mayor of Lambeth, who engaged with residents and posed for a photo with Romeo, a 4.6m long snake.

Resident chefs made a delicious spread of food including jollof rice and chicken, spring rolls and samosas. and Michaels 5 Star Caterers, served up beef burgers and BBQ jerk. Refreshments and delicious cakes were provided by partner Clapham Park Project’s over 50’s stall.

Cllr Adrian Garden, Mayor of Lambeth, said:

“It was a real pleasure to attend the Clapham Park fun day and experience the community’s positive and welcoming spirit.

“The event was a wonderful celebration of everything that makes Clapham Park special, and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting residents and local partners who contribute so much to its success.”

The day was made possible thanks to the support of the Clapham Park Project, Pinnacle, staff and resident volunteers and was funded by MTVH and developer Vistry.
