Summary: MTVH’s Midlands team is delivering a fun summer programme of trips, workshops and youth activities, supported by staff volunteers and local partners.
MTVH’s Community Impact Team in the Midlands is going the extra mile to ensure residents have an enjoyable summer.
From holiday programmes to activities and workshops, the team is responding directly to what residents say they need most. Led by passionate community coordinator Katrina Campbell-Coupland and Regional Manager Lesley Watson, the work is making a real difference to residents’ lives.
After residents mentioned that getting a change of scenery is important, the coordinators organised a trip to the seaside. For some families it was their only opportunity for a holiday, and multiple trips to Skegness from Derby, Nottingham, Leicester and Rushcliffe will be taking place over the next couple of weeks.
The coordinators have also arranged for residents to visit Twinlakes theme park, and have put together a range of other local activities. These include trips to animal holdings where residents can interact with geckos, tarantulas and snakes, as well as craft workshops and outdoor activities in local parks. The initiative is designed to create fun, memorable summer experiences for young people and families. Staff from across MTVH have volunteered their time to help deliver the activities and support residents.
Partnerships have contributed to the programme’s success. These include a partnership with an organisation called Afro-Carribean and Asian Forum (ACAF) o arrange running activities in a park, a partnership with Art Core in Derby to arrange craft workshop, and a partnership with Nottingham Forest FC to do a training session.
There is a high level of staff involvement, with staff from other parts of MTVH joining the volunteering effort.
Katrina Campbell-Coupland, Community Coordinator, MTVH, said:
“We’ve built this summer around what residents told us they wanted – the chance to get a change of scenery and give families and children fun activities. Through partnership working and the generous help of volunteers, we’ve managed to make a small amount of money go a long way and give people a summer to remember.”
