Tell us a little about your apprenticeship and why you chose it?
I am an apprentice electrician. I started my apprenticeship in October 2019, and still believe it was the best decision I have made. I chose to be an electrical apprentice because I had sparked an interest in it when I was doing physics in secondary school and learned a bit about general electronics. From then on, I decided to pursue a career in electronics and decided to do an apprenticeship in electrical installations.
What has the journey been like?
My journey as an apprentice has been full of wonderful experiences. Working with qualified engineers has taught me a lot about electrics and working life. Traveling from place to place has allowed me to explore and see many different areas across London and meet various people.
What do you hope to achieve from this experience?
I hope to achieve a lot of various skillsets from my apprenticeship experience, gain lots of knowledge and utilise them in the field of electrics.
What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?
I enjoy the practical aspect of my apprenticeship. Being able to help and communicate with different tenants alongside no one day being the same gives me a real insight into the profession.
How has this apprenticeship impacted your life?
It has helped with my interpersonal skills and allowed me to gain real-life experience which I would have not been able to achieve if I hadn’t taken this apprenticeship opportunity.
Do you believe it has prepared you for your future goals?
I believe that this apprenticeship has prepared me for my future goals by allowing me to develop all the skills I need for future career aspirations.
What advice would you give to those who are thinking about taking apprenticeships like this?
Choose something you’re passionate about. Employers are commonly looking for similar traits and characteristics in apprentices, regardless of the job role, including punctuality, reliability, a real interest in the job, and also being eager to learn are all important attributes.
