Summary: Katie is currently a Business Support Apprentice within the Customer Services Business Support team. Find out more about her apprenticeship journey with MTVH.

National Apprenticeship Week is an annual celebration that shines a light on the positive impact that apprenticeships have on people, employers and communities across the country. The week is an opportunity for us to recognise our valued colleagues who are building their careers at MTVH, learning skills and contributing to the organisation. We interviewed Katie, a Business Support Apprentice, about her role.
What does your role involve on a day-to-day basis?
As a Business Support Apprentice at Waterfront House in Beeston, my daily responsibilities include managing the calendars of MTVH’s Director of Operational Risk and Head of Risk and Quality. I also proactively manage the shared Business Support inbox, arrange travel, and support with a range of other general administration tasks as required for both the Senior Leadership team and wider Customer Services directorate.
What were you doing before you joined MTVH?
I previously worked in a chip shop, and at a leisure centre as a receptionist. Prior to that, I gained customer service experience with a job at McDonald’s while I was doing my A levels. I had never done an admin job before this.
Why did you choose the apprenticeship pathway in particular?
I liked the idea of training and learning on the job. My IT skills have come on a lot since I started, and I have built time management skills by working on timings and diaries. I also helped organise the Molly Huggins fundraising gala in October last year, which gave me valuable experience of event planning.
How have you found the apprenticeship so far?
Really positive. I work closely with Customer Service colleagues, and I’ve found everyone to be very nice and welcoming. Even now, if I have questions, people are happy to help. The apprenticeship has built my confidence.
Are there any projects or moments you’re especially proud of?
I helped organise the away days for the heads of service. I’d never organised an event like that before, but they were a success and I received a lot of positive feedback.
How have your manager and colleagues supported you on your journey?
Everyone has been really supportive since I started. Because business support is a close team, I never feel like I can’t ask for help if I need it.
How do you feel the apprenticeship is preparing you for your future career?
It’s been really useful. Even the assignments link back to my work. The skills I am building are transferable, which gives me confidence for whatever comes next.
What are your goals for the next few years?
I’m contracted until February 2027, for another year. I am hoping to be kept on in the team.
What would you say to someone thinking about applying for an apprenticeship at MTVH?
Go for it. It opens a lot of doors. I’ve learned a lot since I started, and it’s been really beneficial for me.
How has this apprenticeship impacted your life?
It’s been a really positive move, and I enjoy the routine. Every day is different, but I broadly know what to expect when I come into work.
