Wembley residents benefit from summer support programme

29 August 2025

Summary: MTVH has delivered a summer programme at the Chalkhill Estate in Wembley, focused on food support and scam prevention, working with partners to support residents.

MTVH’s Community Impact Team have actively supported residents at Wembley’s Chalkhill Estate throughout the summer.

Recognising that summer can be a time of increased food insecurity, the team partnered with the Felix Project, Chalkhill Primary School, and the Chalkhill Community Centre to distribute food bags to 30 families – providing essential support during the summer holidays. The Felix Project, which works with supermarkets to redistribute surplus food, played a key role in delivering the event.

In addition to food support, the Chalkhill team ran scam prevention sessions as part of their digital inclusion programme. Delivered in partnership with Brent Council, these sessions focused on helping older adults stay safe from online fraud and phone scams. Residents took part in group classes and 1:1 sessions to strengthen their digital safety and awareness. Older adults are statistically among the most affected by online scams, and empowering them with knowledge and tools to stay safe is a key part of MTVH’s commitment to digital inclusion and wellbeing.

Lesley Watson, Regional Manager, Community Impact, MTVH, said:

“Summer can be a challenging time for families, particularly for those parents who rely on free school meals. The Felix Project also reports the increase in surplus fresh food available for distribution during the summer – so our food distribution programme solves two problems at once: saving food from going to waste and helping families facing food insecurity.

“Our other programme in Chalkhill on scam prevention was especially important in empowering residents with the knowledge they need to protect themselves against scams, which are increasingly sophisticated.

“Both programmes are examples of how we’re working with partners to deliver real results to improve our residents’ lives.”
