Summary: MTVH and Chartway Partnerships Group came together to mark the start of construction of 67 affordable homes in Sunbury-on-Thames.
Construction has officially begun on a new 67-home affordable housing development in Sunbury-on-Thames, as we joined Chartway Partnerships Group to mark start of works on a scheme that will deliver much-needed affordable homes and create a new residential community in Surrey.
Representatives from both MTVH and Chartway Partnerships Group gathered at the Hazelwood Drive site to celebrate the milestone, which marks the first partnership between the two organisations and the start of delivery on a development that will help address local housing need.
Situated on a 4.23-acre site, the scheme will provide 67 affordable rent homes, including a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom properties designed to meet a range of housing needs. The development will also include landscaped public open space, a children’s play area, improved pedestrian links to School Walk and enhancements to local bus facilities, helping to create a well-connected and sustainable neighbourhood.
The development forms part of wider efforts to increase the supply of affordable housing across Surrey and the South East, providing high-quality homes for local people while creating a vibrant new community.
Andrew Stubley, Director of Construction at Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing, said:
“Today marks an important step forward in the delivery of 67 affordable rented homes that will make a real difference to local people and families.
“We know there is significant demand for affordable housing across the region and developments such as this are vital in helping people access high-quality homes in the communities where they want to live and work.
“This development comes at an exciting time for MTVH, following our recent end-of-year results which highlighted a record year for new home delivery, demonstrating our continued commitment to increasing the supply of affordable housing and creating thriving communities.
“We are delighted to be working alongside Chartway on our first partnership project together and look forward to seeing the development progress over the coming months.”
Graham Chivers, Chief Executive Officer of Chartway Partnerships Group, said:
“Breaking ground on this development is an important milestone and the start of an exciting new partnership with MTVH.
“At Chartway, we are committed to delivering high-quality homes and creating sustainable communities that have a positive and lasting impact. This development will provide 67 much-needed affordable homes while also delivering the public spaces and infrastructure needed to support a thriving neighbourhood.
“Partnership working is central to our approach and this project demonstrates what can be achieved when organisations come together with a shared ambition to tackle housing need and deliver meaningful social value.”
Construction is now underway, with the first homes expected to be completed in 2027.
