MTVH celebrates Supported Housing Week

19 October 2026

Summary: MTVH joins the National Housing Federation to celebrate vital supported housing services, in the first ever Supported Housing Week.

This week, (19th – 23rd October), MTVH is celebrating Supported Housing Week alongside the National Housing Federation.

Supported housing combines accommodation with support services tailored to meet the needs of the people living there. These services support a wide range of people, including those who have experienced homelessness, veterans, older people, disabled people, people with mental health support needs, survivors of domestic abuse, care leavers and prison leavers.

This inaugural Supported Housing Week shines a spotlight on these vital services, and the partnerships that make them what they are. As a sector, supported housing enables more than half a million people across the country to live independently.

At MTVH, we are proud of the over 2000 supported homes we provide, meeting different community’s needs across the country.

Despite growing demand, many supported housing services face significant financial pressures. There is currently a shortfall of 80,000 supported housing places for working-age adults and between 73,000 and 245,000 places for older people across England. Research from the National Housing Federation also suggests that around 60% of providers may have to close schemes in the future if these pressures continue.

Claire Wise, Director of MTVH support, said:

“We’re pleased to be recognising Supported Housing Week alongside the sector. It’s a vital service that provides a safe home and tailored support, helping people build greater independence. We are proud of our colleagues and partners who make these vital services possible.”

Without supported housing, 41,000 more people would experience homelessness, a further 30,000 would be at risk of becoming homeless, and demand on public services would increase significantly, including for inpatient psychiatric care, residential care and prison places.
