MTVH and Spelthorne Borough Council celebrate the completion of new homeless facility

30 September 2021

Summary: An event was held on 29 September, led by the Mayor of Spelthorne Cllr Ian Harvey and supported by MTVH to mark the completion of Spelthorne Borough Council’s new homeless facility in Ashford.

The White House Hostel on the Kingston Road in Ashford, opening on 11 October, will provide specialist accommodation for single homeless people with multiple or complex needs. The development comprises 27 en-suite rooms with shared kitchens, four self-contained studio flats, as well as outside space.

Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing (MTVH) have been appointed to manage the facility, providing a specialist support service with 24-hour on-site cover and a team who have extensive experience in working with residents to create settled futures.

Julie Shuter, Regional Director for South London and South at MTVH said: “‘We are delighted to be working with Spelthorne Borough Council to provide homelessness support services at the White House. At MTVH, we are committed to providing people with the support they need to establish settled futures and, given the impact of the pandemic, it is particularly important to expand homelessness services at this time. We hope that through the provision of resident support services at the White House, we can support more people to move on to a safe, permanent home.”

Cllr Sandra Dunn, Chair of the Community Wellbeing and Housing Committee, said: “We are extremely proud of this fantastic purpose-built facility which will provide support for some of the most vulnerable members of our community. Homelessness has such a devastating effect on people’s lives, so I’m delighted that this new service will provide the specialist assistance people need and help them to move to settled accommodation.”
